Former Nansemond River High School track and field star Brandee’ Johnson and the University of Florida women’s track team are No. 6 in preseason rankings.
The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association recently made its preseason indoor track and field rankings. The University of Florida’s women’s track and field team came in at No. 6. Johnson is now competing in her sophomore season at UF.
She headed into the indoor season coming off of a good summer. Over the summer, she took gold in the 400-meter event at the USA Track and Field Junior Nationals meet. Before the USATF meet, Johnson felt like her freshman season wasn’t exactly how she wanted it to be, even though things started to pick up for her in the outdoor season.
She made the Southeastern Conference all-freshman team in the outdoor season. Also, she was the first underclassman at Florida since 2005 to score points in both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles.
Florida competed in its first meet of the 2018 indoor season last Saturday at Clemson University. Johnson placed eighth in the 300-meter with a time of 38.89.
