Make-up schedule set

Suffolk Public Schools students missed a total of five days due to Winter Storm Grayson, and the School Board on Thursday confirmed the make-up days.

Only four of the five missed days have to be made up. The first missed day was covered by the extra hours built into the school’s calendar. The other four will be made up on work days and one holiday.

Children will attend school on Jan. 29, originally a clerical day; Feb. 16, originally a parent-teacher conference day’ Feb. 19, originally Presidents’ Day holiday; and March 6, originally a professional development day.

The school board also adjusted the schedule to ensure students will have the proper amount of time to prepare for mid-term exams. Both middle and high school exams have been pushed until the end of January and beginning of February.

Jan. 24 through Jan. 29 was scheduled to be half days for exams, but these days will now be full school days. High school exams will start on Jan. 30 and run until Feb. 2. Middle school exams will start on Jan. 31 and run until Feb. 2.

Secondary schools will have half-days on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. All Suffolk Public Schools will have a half-day on Feb. 2.

The second semester will officially begin on Feb. 5.
