Man charged in robbery

A 72-year-old Suffolk man has been charged in relation to two December incidents involving Chartway Federal Credit Union locations in Suffolk.
Carver D. Hyman is charged in relation to the Dec. 19 robbery of the branch in the 1400 block of North Main Street and the Dec. 29 attempted robbery of the branch in the 3500 block of Bridge Road, according to a city press release.
Police received information about the suspect’s identity on Jan. 11, detained him and transported him to police headquarters, according to the press release.
He is charged with robbery and prohibition of wearing a mask in certain places in the Dec. 19 incident and attempted robbery, prohibition of wearing a mask in certain places and use of a firearm in commission of a felony in the Dec. 29 incident.
In the Dec. 19 robbery, the press release stated, a male suspect handed a note to the cashier demanding money but did not display a weapon. He was reported to be wearing a surgical mask and looked to be 30 to 40 years of age.
The suspect in the Dec. 19 incident also handed a note to a teller demanding money but did not get any money. He also was wearing a “white dust/surgical mask” but was reported to be about 50 years old.
