Junior Lady Bulldog Nylah Young went for 41 points in a win against Nansemond River High School.

Young had the hot hand Saturday when King’s Fork High School took on its crosstown rival Lady Warriors. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Warriors 83-28. In back-to-back games, the Lady Bulldogs beat both Lakeland High School and Nansemond River, outscoring both teams by a combined 185-39.

King’s Fork remains undefeated in district play as the team continues to catch its stride in the month of January. Before the game Saturday afternoon, Young said she felt like she was going to have a good game.

“I was feeling great,” she said. “I think every player has that feeling where they think they are going to have a good game, and I believe Saturday was one of them. My team noticed it, and they kept feeding me the ball, and I appreciated that.”

Nylah Young scored a career-high 41 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the Lady Bulldogs’ win over Nansemond River High School.

The total makes Young’s personal record for a single game and also is easily one of the highest individual point totals in school history. To go along with the 41, she grabbed 15 rebounds in a double-double effort. However, Young was just happy to help her teammates get the win.

“I feel like we played hard as a team,” Young said. “Defense was the key.”

Camary Harris added 25 as she and Young were the only two Bulldogs to score in double-figures. Her 25 was also impressive after coming off of a triple-double the night before.

Lady Bulldogs coach Maurice Fofana mentioned that the team is still finding its identity. If the Lady Bulldogs continue to play like this late January into February, they will be equipped for a strong playoff run. The Lady Bulldogs know they have a different team from last season. However, they believe that because everyone has the same goal — to return back to the state championship game — King’s Fork will be fine.

Briana Autrey was the bright spot for Nansemond River, as she led with 20 points.

If the weather allows it, King’s Fork will play Hickory High School at home Friday at 7 p.m. Nansemond River will play Grassfield High School Friday at home at 7 p.m.
