City got 2 to 4 inches of snow

Suffolk city offices opened on a two-hour delay on Thursday, the day after a winter storm dropped 2 to 4 inches of snow across the city.

Suffolk police officers responded to 40 accidents from 2 p.m. Wednesday through the overnight hours, according to a city press release. Public Works personnel used 1,000 tons of treatments including salt on primary and secondary roadways, concentrating on bridges and overpasses as well as the roadways.

Trash and recycling collections were set to run as scheduled Thursday, and Suffolk Transit began operations at 10:30 a.m.

Since public schools were closed Wednesday, before- and after-school care at Suffolk Parks and Recreation Joint Use facilities was not held.
