Suffolk native and former King’s Fork High School standout Davon Grayson will attend the 2018 NFL Combine.
The NFL Combine is an event where NFL draft prospects work out in front of teams, coaches and team owners. There is a field portion, where there are position drills, and there is a classroom portion, where NFL prospects get to meet with coaches and scouts for interviews.
The combine is an annual event and is the best place to build buzz as a prospect. It is considered the league’s most prestigious scouting event. Last year, another former Bulldog, Chuck Clark, attended the combine. He went on to be drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Grayson is also getting ready to play in the NFL Players Association game. It is a game for seniors that is also helpful for building draft buzz. According to the founders of the NFL Draft Bible scouting site, they believe that Grayson opened some eyes at the practices for the NFLPA game.
“Davon Grayson has boosted his stock immensely,” according to NFL Draft Bible. “He is using quickness and athleticism to win one-on-one matchups while making plenty of plays during the seven-on-seven series. He has also been one of the most requested players interviewed by teams.”
He finished with a good senior season at East Carolina University, catching 59 passes for 886 yards and six touchdowns. It was a good comeback for Grayson, who had to sit out all of his junior season due to injury. The senior was also selected to the Conference-USA team as a second-team receiver.
The combine will take place Feb. 27 to March 5 in Indianapolis, Ind. It also receives heavy media coverage from networks like ESPN. It is possible Grayson could be the second Suffolk native drafted in as many years.
