Nansemond-Suffolk Academy all-state lineman Chris Murphy is headed to Methodist University for his college career.

Murphy’s recruiting process started off a little slow; however, he is grateful to have the opportunity to play football at the next level. He believes being at a smaller school like Methodist will allow him to focus even more on his academics, but on the field, he also believes he will be a good asset to the program.

“I liked the coaches and the facilities,” Murphy said. He credited “My hard work and dedication to everything I do and perseverance to never give up and keep giving 100 percent during every practice and every game.”

Murphy was an integral part of an NSA team that went 6-4 in 2017. His strong season led to him being selected all-conference and then all-state. He was chosen a first team all-state offensive lineman and a second team all-state defensive lineman. Murphy was more than happy with his senior season.

“I was able to stay healthy and make all-state and all-conference,” Murphy said. “I am just excited and happy that my hard work and dedication on the field and in the weight room finally paid off for me during my last season.”

Methodist went 2-8 in 2017.
