Irene Hunter Brinkley

Irene Hunter Brinkley, 96, passed away March 2, 2018. She was born in Perquimans County, N.C., the daughter of the late Carndley Weightman Hunter and Elton Irene Eason Hunter. She was predeceased by her first husband, C. Wesley Brinkley, and then second husband, Aubrey Eugene Harrell. She was also predeceased by her son, Carroll Hunter Brinkley; sister, Edith H. Powell; and brothers, W. Edwin Hunter and Jarvis B. Hunter. Irene was a member of Cypress Chapel Christian Church and the Nettie Harrell Bible Class. She was a founding member of the adult church choir and remained a member for 50 years. She was a strong leader in her church and community through her dedication to the 4-H Club, community teen club, Home Demonstration Club, Meals on Wheels and Liberty Spring Senior Citizens Club.

Irene is survived by her daughters, Judith B. Fischer, Susan B. Rawls and husband, Dr. Charles H. Rawls Jr., Loretta B. Stepka and husband, Thomas S. Stepka; daughter-in-law, Joyce B. Pond; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Cypress Chapel Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. Willis Dowling officiating. Burial will follow at Cypress Chapel Congregational Christian Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory.
