Edwin Eugene Byrd

On Monday, March 5, 2018, Edwin Eugene Byrd answered the Master’s call and went home to be with his Heavenly Father. Edwin was born in Isle of Wight County on March 21, 1952, to the late Magnolia F. Byrd and Charlie Byrd. He was the oldest of five siblings. He was preceded in death by his sister, Addie L. Byrd.

Edwin was educated in the Isle of Wight County Public Schools, later graduating from Virginia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. Upon graduation, he was employed by Suffolk Public Schools as a math teacher. After four years of teaching, Edwin took an interest in sales and became a salesman. Over the years, he was employed by Casey Chevrolet and Allied Enterprises. After more than 15 years of dedicated service, he retired from selling industrial chemicals with Southern Sanitation.

To know Edwin was to love him. He impacted the lives of many who he came in contact with, by his kind spirit and friendly personality. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted and loving wife of 41 years, Peggy Byrd; two brothers, Wilbert Byrd, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Burley Byrd, of Silver Springs, Md.; one sister, Janice Johnson (Lafayette Jr.), of Dendron; one sister-in-law, Odessa Peoples (Rodney); two brothers-in-law, Roosevelt Peoples (Jean) and Timothy Peoples; an aunt, Josie Davis; two godchildren, Melba Osborne and Michael Thomas; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2018, at Canaan Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in Meadowbrook Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home Inc.
