Suffolk native Shannon Evans II will be on the biggest stage of college basketball on Wednesday when Arizona State University takes on Syracuse University in the first-round play-in game.
ASU is a No. 11 seed in the tournament and will match up with Syracuse, also a No. 11 seed. The winner will advance to the next round to face sixth-seeded Texas Christian University.
ASU was one of the last few teams to be selected in the field of play, which came with some controversy. They finished eighth in the Pac-12 Conference, while other teams who had finished higher in the same conference didn’t make it.
ASU got in with a 20-11 record. Evans averages 16.6 points and 3.5 assists for the Sun Devils.
The team will play Syracuse at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday. The game will be televised on TruTV. If ASU wins, they will play TCU at 9:40 p.m. Friday, televised on CBS.
