Team WAR had a couple of standouts earn some accolades for their performance in the indoor season this year.

Track and field website Milesplit.com released its indoor awards for the year recently, and a couple of Team WAR members made the list. The website named Kori Carter the 5A Athlete of the Year, while Daiqwuan Faircloth was named the Senior Athlete of the Year.

Carter had a strong run during the championship meets. She took the state title in the 55-meter dash and the 55-meter hurdles. She also moved up the all-time list in the 55 hurdles and the 300-meter dash. She was also an integral part of the 4×200 team at nationals.

“It feels good for my hard work to be recognized,” Carter said. “I definitely wasn’t expecting it at all. I just want to continue to work as hard as I can so I can continue to push myself.”

Carter likes to use her accolades as motivation. Her family is always happy for her, but she remains humble and continues to work hard so that she can always exceed her prior best performance.

Faircloth was ecstatic but not content with being named the Senior Athlete of the Year. He remembers not qualifying for the state meet during his sophomore campaign and now is seeing all his hard work come together. He helped the boys’ team take home the 4×200 national title and took the state championship in the 55-meter hurdles. With outdoor season here, he is looking to accomplish even more.

“I want to improve more in my hurdles and become an All-American in the hurdles at the outdoor national meet,” he said.
