Bedbugs reported at school

Turlington Woods School Principal Kinsey Bynum on Thursday sent a letter to parents informing them that bedbugs had been found on a student’s belongings at the school.

“Immediate action was taken by a licensed pest control specialist to inspect and treat classrooms,” the letter stated. “We will continue to monitor the school for bedbugs and work closely with the pest management company if additional action is necessary.”

Along with the letter, Bynum referenced the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to remind parents that bedbugs do not transmit disease and therefore are simply a nuisance. They can cause itching and loss of sleep, according to the CDC.

The CDC also acknowledges that while bed bugs are not known to spread disease, every person can react differently to a bed bug bite. Some may not react at all to the bites, while others experience allergic reactions that require medical attention.
