The Nansemond River High School baseball team shut out Indian River High School after a solid pitching performance.
The Warriors took a 9-0 home win against Indian River thanks to great pitching. Gage Williams, Mason Beddingfield and Zach Cain each shared pitching duties Thursday evening, with Williams securing the pitching win. He pitched five innings, allowed three hits and struck out six batters.
Nansemond River immediately got things started in the first inning, when they put up four runs. From there, they built on their lead and never allowed Indian River to get on board. Matt Culbert went 2-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Jarrett Mayer went 3-4 with three runs and a triple and Bryson Dansberry went 3-3 with two runs and two doubles.
Nansemond River will resume district play against rival Lakeland High School at home at 5:30 p.m. April 10.
