A community church will once again collect donations to give women in Suffolk a free shopping spree for their wardrobe needs.

Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church will start accepting donations for its “Hello Gorgeous” clothing giveaway this Sunday. Donations for the ladies-only clothing drive will be accepted up until the giveaway held from 10 a.m. to noon on April 28.

Donors can bring any unwanted shirts, shoes, pants and other pieces of clothing for both men and women to the church office at 3488 Godwin Blvd.

“Only ladies are coming to shop at the event, but they’re going to shop for everybody,” communications coordinator Brittany Payton said in a phone interview.

Women will show up at 10 a.m. at the church to discuss fashion choices before going through their options. Some may be buying clothes for an upcoming job interview, while others will simply look for something new to wear.

Lynne Grosso, Westminster connections coordinator and organizer for last year’s clothing giveaway, was inspired to do this by her own experiences with such clothing rallies for women during her studies at Bible school in Australia.

Payton said nearly 100 women came to the giveaway last year to look through thousands of donated pieces of clothing.

“We ended up having to open an extra room and just piled the clothes five feet high on tables,” she said.

No registration is required, and all women are welcome at the giveaway.

“Even if you can’t make it to the event, feel free to come to the church and donate,” Payton said.
