The Saints took a home loss against Steward School Friday evening.

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy baseball team went to 3-6 after the 9-2 loss. NSA played well for most of the game, but the seventh inning proved to be the turning point. The teams were tied at two heading into the sixth inning before Steward School ran off with seven runs.

“They were a great team. They were very well coached,” Saints coach Joey Seal said. “For six of the seven innings, we were right there with them. In that sixth inning we couldn’t seem to get that third out. In our last three or four games, it has been one big inning that’s killed us. We have to be tougher, and I have to coach better.”

Will Rice, Colby Owens, Kieran Conway and Caden Anselm all handled pitching duties, with Rice getting the most work. Conway was given the loss for the game, as he allowed five hits and seven runs. Zac Morris and Robby Tew were the only Saints to collect multiple hits. Morris went 2-4 with one run and an RBI, while Tew went 2-3.

“We were right there with a really good team, and I think they saw that,” Seal said. “Our focus going forward is just putting together a complete game, and I’m excited about watching these guys get back at it and put some wins together soon.”

NSA will face Peninsula Catholic High School on the road at 4:45 p.m. Monday.
