Saints golf in rebuild

The Saints golf team has been improving through a rebuild this season.
The start of the season has been a bit difficult for the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy golf team. The weather has put a damper starting the season the way they wanted to, but they are glad another season is here. This season, Coach Tom Harry lost three seniors from last year and four of his top six players from last season.
Austin Gise and Kelly Provost return as two of the top golfers for this season. The Saints are hoping to break even this year with their record. With the lack of team practice early on, it can be difficult to get into a groove, but Harry is remaining optimistic about the season. Through the few matches NSA has played in, they have shown they have to work on a couple of things. NSA was an experienced team last year but came into this season with less experience.
“We have three golfers who had never played in a match before,” Harry said. “In their first match, they did pretty well. I am also hoping as we go through the season, we can all continue to build and become better players.”
NSA will face Hampton Roads Academy at 4 p.m. Thursday at the James River Country Club.
