Suffolk is joining other towns and cities across the country to recognize “National Work Zone Awareness Week.” The goal is to have zero incidents in 2018.

Whether you are walking, cycling or driving, everyone must be more vigilant and patient to make our roads safer. In 2017, VDOT recorded 2,666 work zone crashes resulting in 1,329 injuries and 12 fatalities — an increase from 2016.

“Suffolk is a growing city, and as a result we have many work zones,” said Chad Oxton, Suffolk Public Works roadways supervisor. “Please drive carefully and remember that our work crews have families, too.”
