Willie R. Whitfield Sr., 81, of Maple Lane, Windsor, transitioned Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was the son of the late Mary Jane Bradley Whitfield and Sidney Whitfield Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Whitfield.

He was a faithful member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He retired from Newport News Shipyard.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Renyta Whitfield, of Windsor; son, Willie Whitfield Jr., of Suffolk; sister, Gracie Cotton, of Suffolk; two brothers, William Whitfield (Grace) and Lonnie Whitfield, both of Baltimore; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Piney Grove Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in Chapel Grove UCC Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home Inc.
