The Lady Saints softball team took the top spot in the recent VISAA Division II poll.

The Lady Saints were sitting at the top in Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association’s most recent softball poll. They are still undefeated at 8-0 on the season and have been steamrolling their opponents.

The ranking for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as they were either first or second through much of the season last year. They returned all but one player from that team.

NSA got its eighth win of the season after dominating Hampton Roads Academy at home 26-1 Thursday afternoon.

NSA put up 16 runs in the first inning which pretty much put the game out of reach for HRA. Because of the Lady Saints’ lead, the game was ended after five innings. Reese Byrd, Madison Inscoe and Emerson Puzey all handled pitching duties for the Lady Saints, with Inscoe and Byrd each striking out five batters.

Four Lady Saints collected three or more hits, with Dani Goodman going 3-3, Inscoe going 4-5, Addy Greene going 3-5 and Kelly Turner adding three hits. Goodman, Inscoe and Wilson all had triples.

NSA will face Peninsula Catholic on the road at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
