The Saints baseball team defeated HRA 10-0 Thursday evening.

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy baseball team got its first shut out of the season after defeating Hampton Roads Academy. The pitching of Caden Anselm and Talmond Old helped the Saints get the shutout. Anselm got most of the work, pitching five innings and striking out five batters. He earned the win.

The third and fourth innings set NSA apart for the rest of the game. After being up 2-0 since the first inning, they then scored seven combined runs in those two innings.

Kieran Conway went 2-3 with three RBIs and two runs while Zac Morris went 2-2 with three runs and an RBI. Morris added a double, and Conway added a triple. NSA stole nine bases as a team, with Morris leading the way with five.

“This was one of the first times we played a complete game,” Saints coach Joey Seal said. “Everybody executed everything. Caden threw well, and the guys played well. They could have easily come out and coasted and cut the switch off, but they stayed hungry the whole time. The offense, defense and pitching did very well.”

In the first Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II poll, NSA was ranked No. 8. The Saints will face Norfolk Academy at home at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“I think it is starting to come together,” Seal said. “I think this could be the start of building some momentum.”
