Student scholarships for arts offered

The application deadline for student scholarships offered by the Suffolk Art League is approaching.

The deadline is April 19 for the Sharon Picot and Chip Picot Memorial Student Scholarship and the John R. Taylor Jr. Memorial Student Scholarship for Visual Arts.

These scholarships are not college scholarships. They are available for students entering grades 6 to 12 in the 2018-2019 school year. Applicants must live in or attend school in Suffolk, whether public, private or home school.

The Picot scholarship is offering up to $3,500 in scholarship funds for students to pursue their interests in the visual, performing or literary arts. They may use their scholarship funding for such things as taking classes or lessons, purchase of materials, instruments or equipment, or attending workshops or conferences.

The Taylor scholarship offers up to $320 in scholarship funds for students to pursue their interest in the visual arts. They may use their scholarship funding for such things as taking classes or lessons, purchase of materials or equipment.

Applications must include a completed application form, a brief essay written by the student and a recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor or other knowledgeable person. Applications are available from Suffolk school guidance offices and arts teachers.
