In a close affair, the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy baseball team continued its win streak Thursday by defeating Cape Henry Collegiate 2-1 to lift their record to 7-6.

NSA scored both of its runs in the first inning. Caden Anselm handled most of the pitching duties for NSA and struck out four batters on the way to his pitching win.

“The guys played well,” Saints coach Joey Seal said. “The main thing is guys are coming to the field ready to play from pitch one. We have done most of our damage the last couple of games in the first inning, and that has been a big emphasis for us.”

The Saints have been doing a good job getting a good start, which wasn’t the case in their earlier games this season. Seal expressed to his team that it’s easier to play with a lead earlier than trying to catch up.

“I am excited for the way we are playing right now,” Seal said. “We are starting to see potential, and I still think we have a lot of good baseball left in us.”

NSA will face Christchurch School on the road at 1 p.m. Saturday.
