James Hinton Tomlin

James “Jimmy” Hinton Tomlin, 76, went to be with his Heavenly Father on April 28, 2018. He was born in Nansemond County the son of the late Cortez Hinton Tomlin and Marion Virginia Adams Tomlin. He retired as a boiler operator for Union Camp. Jimmy was a member of Holland Baptist Church. He volunteered with the Holland Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chief for 5 years. In his earlier years he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. More recently he was a part of the Suffolk Bell Cranks and Portsmouth Flying Club.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Linda Farrenkopf Tomlin; daughter and son-in-law, Tina “Sug” and Rusty Smith; son and daughter-in-law, James H. Tomlin Jr. and Lisa Tomlin; grandchildren, Tracy and Brandon Gardner, Nicholas and Grace Smith, Alura and Connor Tomlin, Ariel Thompson, Justin Thompson; great-grandchildren, Liam Brandon Gardner, Deacon James Gardner; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bill Cherry; aunt and uncles, Ellen Adams, Cecil Adams and Johnnie Tomlin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jimmy was a loving and devoted husband, father and Pop Pop. He enjoyed his family more than anything. He loved building and flying remote controlled airplanes and working on and driving cars. He was also an avid gunman. He enjoyed any and all things Western and was a cowboy at heart. He had a playful and loving spirit and immeasurable bond with his family, who deeply misses him. Jimmy, a loving son, now rejoices in Heaven with his parents.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Holland Baptist Church with the Rev. Matthew Johnson and the Rev. Michael D. Halley officiating. Burial will follow at Holland Cemetery. A time of visitation will follow the burial back at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Holland Volunteer Fire Department. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
