The Saints scored eight runs in the third inning in a win again Portsmouth Christian School on Saturday.
The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy baseball team won its seventh straight game when they hosted Portsmouth Christian. They won the game 12-8, moving their record to 10-6. It was also senior day for the Saints. NSA has five seniors on the team who have contributed over the last few years. Even though this was Coach Joey Seal’s first year with the group, he was happy to have coached them.
“It’s been a lot of fun coaching this group,” Seal said of his team. “We have made strides with these kids in the program, and I am thankful for the ground that they laid. When you get a new coach, sometimes it’s a coin toss, and I think these guys were welcoming of me from day one. It was a tough day, and lot of them have done a lot for the program. I was just glad to be a part of that day honoring those guys.”
After the first inning, Portsmouth Christian took a 3-2 lead in the first inning. NSA took the lead for the rest of the game with an eight-run third inning, putting them up 10-3. They scored their last two runs in the seventh inning.
Colby Owens, Will Rice and Talmond Old handled pitching duties, and Owens earned the win. Zac Morris went 2-2 with three runs and two RBIs. Morris also added a double and a stolen base. Robby Tew added a couple of hits with a double and a stolen base.
NSA will face Peninsula Catholic High School on the road at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
