A man was taken for a mental health evaluation Friday afternoon after police say he brandished a weapon at them, according to a city press release.
Police responded to the Motel 6 in the 2800 block of Pruden Boulevard at 9:42 a.m. Friday, according to the release. Acquaintances of a guest at the hotel called authorities, saying that the man was acting strangely and was known to have a weapon.
When police arrived and attempted to speak to the man, he brandished a firearm at officers, according to the press release. Officers retreated and secured the area, evacuating several guest rooms nearby as a precautionary measure.
“Police SWAT and negotiators responded and were able to peacefully resolve the situation,” the release stated. The man surrendered to authorities without further incident about 12:40 p.m. and was taken for a mental health evaluation.
There were no injuries.
