Where’s the ‘LOVE’ in Suffolk?

Whether you love Suffolk or craft beer (or both), you can take a photo on your phone at new displays of “LOVE” this May and potentially win cool prizes for your photos.

Suffolk Division Tourism has placed Virginia’s “LOVE” signs at two craft beer spots as part of Virginia Tourism Corporation’s “Virginia is for Lovers” campaign. The 7-foot-high, 16-feet-long words are downtown at Brick and Mortar Brewing Company at 212 E. Washington St. and in North Suffolk at Decent People Taproom, 5140 River Club Drive, Suite 120.

The new signs coincide with American Craft Beer Week to encourage people to “untap the possibilities in Suffolk,” according to Tourism Development Manager Theresa Earles.

“Virginia Tourism Corporation has launched a new take on the commonwealth’s tourism brand — Virginia is for Craft Beer Lovers — and we here in Suffolk are gladly echoing the sentiment,” Earles wrote in an email.

The East Washington Street sign will be displayed through Sunday, while the one at River Club Drive will be there through May 25, according to the press release. Brick and Mortar is Suffolk’s first brewery, while Decent People’s bright taproom has 44 self-serve taps with a full-service restaurant.

“It’s kind of neat, and it brings attention to businesses like us,” Decent People co-owner Eric Langhorst said in a phone interview. “Especially since it’s craft beer week.”

Folks can take photos with the “LOVE” letters and post them on the “VisitSuffolkVa” Facebook page or on Instagram with “#visitsuffolkva.” Prize packs with tour tickets, gift certificates and other Suffolk prizes will be awarded for the three best photo submissions, according to Earles.
