Ruth E. White passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018. She was born in Nansemond County on Dec. 15, 1934, to the late Reuben Privott and Lillie Brown Privott. 

She was predeceased by her siblings, Percy Privott, Esther Privott, Dorothy Jeffries, James Privott and Ethel Holmes.

Ruth was educated in Nansemond County Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She retired from the Suffolk City School System. 

She was a loyal and faithful member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church. She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Amicae (charter member).

Ruth leaves behind to celebrate her life and to cherish her memory, her husband, James R. White; children, Karen Watson, Keith White, Stephanie Artis (Phillip), Katrina Cotton (Calvin), Kendall White (Tonica) and Gerald Copeland; sister, Ella Greene; sister-in-law, Willie Mae Griffin; special son, Kennieth Harrison; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many special neighbors, caregivers, other family and friends.

Mrs. White visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A celebration of life service will take place at noon Friday at Metropolitan Baptist Church. She will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
