Warriors complete city championship

The Warriors took the city championship after defeating King’s Fork High School’s baseball team at home Tuesday evening.

The Nansemond River High baseball team has gone a combined 4-0 against each of its rivals this season. The Warriors defeated the Bulldogs 11-2 behind big first and second innings. Nansemond River opened the game with five runs in the first inning and tacked on four more in the second to push their lead to 9-0.

King’s Fork added two runs in the third to cut the lead to 9-2 but were unable to get on the board the rest of the game. Gage Williams and Zach Cain pitched, with Williams earning the win. Jarrett Mayer went 3-4 with two runs and a RBI, and Dezmen Howard went 2-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

Mason Brown, Brendan Sanzo and Thomas Beale pitched for the Bulldogs, with Brown being credited for the loss.

Nansemond River will go on the road to face Hickory High School at 5:30 p.m. Friday. King’s Fork will face its other rival Lakeland High School at home at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
