Prospective North Suffolk residents will have even more opportunities for housing and shopping in a recently announced development.

BECO, a Virginia-based multifamily and commercial property developer, on Thursday detailed their plans for a mixed-use development in North Suffolk called Bridgeport.

The project will be located at the intersection of Bridge Road and Windward Lane across from Bennett’s Creek Farmers Market, according to Public Relations and Marketing Director Julie Gifford. The owners are Burt Cutright and Eric Olson.

“The owners chose this location because they wanted to provide a social hub in North Suffolk where residents from all over Suffolk and coastal Virginia can live, work and play,” Gifford wrote in an email.

Preliminary site work has already begun, with crews expected to break ground by the end of the summer. Phase I of Bridgeport will include 3800 Acqua, a 288-unit multifamily community with one- and two-bedroom apartments that will be available in spring 2019, according to the press release.

The first phase will feature 10,000 square feet of office space and 60,000 square feet of retail space, with 40,000 square feet available for lease. No announcements have been made regarding leased space, according to Gifford, but ideal businesses for the space include boutiques and local retailers.

“We envision casual dining and fine dining establishments too,” Gifford wrote.

Additional phases are in the planning stages, according to the press release. BECO’s track record already features the Harbour Breeze Lifestyle Apartments and Professional Center in North Suffolk.

“BECO is extremely proud and excited to bring our vision of a community-centric, mixed-use development to Suffolk,” Cutright stated in the press release. “Not only paving the way for an elevated live, work, play experience in the area, but also setting the standard for future growth in the market.

“As the epicenter for community congregation and social engagement, Bridgeport will marry top national retailers, local boutiques and favorite area restaurants with exciting entertainment options — all right outside our residents’ and office tenants’ doorsteps.”
