Saints senior Robby Tew has signed to play baseball with Hampden-Sydney College.

Tew just recently wrapped up his senior season for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy. However, his baseball career won’t stop there, as he has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Hampden-Sydney.

The senior, who is also a football standout, decided that he wanted to play baseball at the next level instead of football. For the past two years, Tew was the man behind center for the football team and eventually set the school touchdown record last fall. But more of his recruiting was for baseball, and he felt it was a smarter choice for him to play baseball in college because of his size.

He is coming off of a season where he helped the NSA baseball team reach the state tournament. Tew was a second team All-Conference selection this season for baseball.

The Saint described his recruiting process as long and stressful at times but was happy to have made a decision on Hampden-Sydney. Randolph-Macon College and Marymount College also had interest in him.

“I am just going to go in and do whatever they ask of me and hopefully get on the field as soon as possible,” Tew said.

Tew liked the overall atmosphere and what school had to offer. He will also have his fair share of familiar faces there, as some of his football teammates and baseball teammates will be attending Hampden-Sydney as well.
