New Kent ends Lakeland’s season

The Lakeland High School baseball team ended its season with a loss on the road Wednesday to New Kent High School.

The Cavs had to match up with New Kent in the opening game of the Class 3 Region A tournament and lost 16-2.

New Kent started off with a 7-0 lead after the second inning. From there, Lakeland didn’t score its only two runs until the fifth inning. New Kent didn’t score runs in each inning; however, the three innings that they did score in ended up being explosive ones.

Lakeland had four errors on the evening. Tyler Spencer, Andrew Kelley and Cody Anderson handled pitching duties, with Spencer being credited for the loss. Each pitcher gave up at least two hits, with Spencer and Kelley both giving up five. Spencer did go 2-3 for Lakeland on the day.
