“We wanted to make sure we came out there and played our best,” coach Richard Froemel said. “We have been up and down lately, and we are going to have to keep playing our best to keep advancing.”

Cali Hinnant pitched well, as the Lady Bulldogs didn’t allow a single run to be scored. She struck out 11 on her way to allowing only three hits. The Lady Bulldogs had 14 hits in five innings. Froemel went 3-3 with two runs and three RBIs to go along with a double and a triple. Gay went 2-3 with two runs and an RBI, while Williamson went 2-2 with three RBIs and a run. Lauryn Maher stole three bases on the day.

“We played well as a team,” Hinnant said. “We have to continue to keep taking it one game at a time.”

King’s Fork is set to face Great Bridge High School on the road in the second round Friday. It will be the third meeting between the two teams. Great Bridge has won both of the previous games.

“I think we have hit well all year, but we are going to have to play good defense,” Froemel said. “We have to eliminate the mental mistakes, and we want to come in with a chip on our shoulder.”
