Firefighters rescued a girl who got her arm stuck in the vacuum connection port of the community pool on Wednesday afternoon.
It happened in the King’s Fork Farms neighborhood pool and was reported at 1:47 p.m. The 7-year-old’s hand and part of her arm were stuck in the port for about an hour before she was freed by a technical rescue team, according to a city press release.
Firefighters arrived to find the girl, who had been playing while supervised, being supported with her head above water so that she would be able to breathe. The water was about 4 feet deep, the release stated.
Rescue personnel took over, supporting the girl and securing power to the pump. However, they were still unable to remove her arm, so the technical rescue team broke the concrete surrounding the pipe.
The girl was believed to have suffered only minor injuries, but she was taken by ground ambulance to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters for evaluation, just in case.
