Lady Saint Rylee Bono was selected second team All-State for girls’ lacrosse.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy girls’ lacrosse made its return this season after not having a varsity team for a couple of seasons. In its first year back, NSA was able to get some postseason recognition.
Bono was an All-Conference and All-State selection for NSA as a freshman, despite NSA only having two wins.
“I definitely think from a win-loss perspective, it didn’t reflect our personal skills and overall team growth,” Bono said. “We are a young team, and I think this year really showed us we have to continue working harder if we want to reach a full potential next season.”
Bono said her teammates picked each other up and reminded each other there is more to the sport than wins and losses. She was hard on herself at times during the season and thanked her teammates for helping her through that.
“My teammates and coaches are amazing,” Bono said. “We are so supportive of each other, and by the end of the season, we had grown into a very close team. That definitely made the season feel like a success.”
Bono wanted to better understand the game and improve physically, and she felt like she was able to accomplish that this season. Primarily a volleyball player, Bono plays lacrosse as a second sport, but she found success in it and feels like her teammates helped push her to be great in it as well.
