Nansemond River High School’s baseball team placed three players on the Southeastern District teams.

Gage Williams, Jarrett Mayer and Bryson Dansberry each were named to the All-District teams.

Williams was selected a first team pitcher after having a strong year. Williams went 9-1 and had more than 100 strikeouts. He was also a first team All-Region selection. The recent Nansemond River graduate will now head to Longwood University, where he is set to play NCAA Division I baseball.

Mayer was also a first team selection as an outfielder. Before the season, Mayer had set a goal for himself to achieve first team all All-Region. He slightly missed out on the All-Region teams but was happy to receive a postseason honor still.

“It is a great feeling,” Mayer said of his All-District selection. “I was kind of devastated I didn’t make All-Region, but I am happy to have made All-District. I wanted to achieve one of those awards for my senior season, and I am glad I was able to achieve first team All-District.”

Dansberry was a second team selection for the Warriors. He felt like he had a good season offensively and defensively. One of his standout performances this season came against Indian River High School, where he went 3-3 with two doubles and a single.

“Very grateful to have made the second team, the hard work in the offseason has paid off big time,” Dansberry said. “I worked so hard. I am very blessed and honored.”

Dansberry is a sophomore and will be the only one of the All-District players to return for next season. He is hoping next season to possibly make All-Region and All-State.

Dezmen Howard and Ben Grady were honorable mentions at first base and honorable mention respectively.

Nansemond River barely missed out on the Class 5 All-Region playoffs. Regardless of not getting there, they felt good about the talent on the team and had good moments throughout the season. The Warriors will be returning a nice core for next season that will look to build on the success from this year.

Players such as Howard, Williams and others will get a chance to further their educations and play the sports they love as well.
