A Suffolk man died in Portsmouth on Tuesday in a bicycle crash.

The Portsmouth Police Department continues to investigate the crash that killed 45-year-old Christopher M. Wilkins, according to a Portsmouth press release.

The crash was reported at 10:35 p.m. Tuesday, Portsmouth police stated. It happened near the intersection of High and Shenandoah streets, near the base of the Churchland Bridge.

The accident involved Wilkins and a private ambulance. Citizens on scene were performing lifesaving measures when police and medics arrived, the press release stated.

Wilkins succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
