City announces Independence Day closings

In observance of Independence Day, Suffolk city offices will be closed Wednesday, July 4. Normal operations will resume at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 5.
The city observes all state-designated holidays. Independence Day is considered a holiday for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and all state offices are closed on this day.
The following facilities and services will observe the following schedule:
There will be no trash or recycling collection on Wednesday. Suffolk Public Works Department and TFC Recycling will pick up trash and recycling on a one-day delay with Wednesday’s trash routes collected on Thursday, Thursday’s trash routes on Friday, and Friday’s trash routes on Saturday. The Suffolk Public Works Department reminds residents that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. Businesses located in the Downtown Business Overlay District will have their collection run as scheduled with collections on Tuesday and Friday. The Southeastern Public Service Authority Transfer Station in Suffolk and Regional Landfill will be closed on Wednesday.
Suffolk Transit will not operate on Wednesday.
All Suffolk Parks & Recreation joint use recreation facilities will be closed Wednesday. All Planet Recreation programs and sites will be closed Wednesday, including the Booker T. Washington, Creekside, Mack Benn Jr., Northern Shores, Oakland and Whaleyville community centers.
The East Suffolk Recreation Center and Whaleyville Community Center will be closed Wednesday.
Suffolk’s four major parks — Lone Star Lakes, Sleepy Hole, Constant’s Wharf Park & Marina and Bennett’s Creek — will remain open Wednesday; however, no park attendant will be on duty. Constant’s Wharf Park & Marina will be the site for the Stars and Stripes Spectacular on Wednesday, with the park opening at 5:30 p.m. and fireworks starting at 9 p.m.
Cypress Park Pool will be closed Wednesday.
The Suffolk Art Gallery will be closed Wednesday.
All Suffolk city libraries — Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk and Chuckatuck — will be closed Wednesday.
The Suffolk Tourism Visitor Center and Seaboard Station Railroad Museum will remain open on Wednesday. The Visitor Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Railroad Museum will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Suffolk Executive Airport Terminal will be unmanned on Wednesday. The field and self-service fuel island will remain open during this time. Suffolk BBQ at the Airport will be open Wednesday.
