Emergency crews responded to a medical office in North Suffolk Tuesday morning when a “white, powdery substance” was discovered in an envelope.
However, the substance was quickly identified as a dust-like material on gauze packaging, according to a city press release.
The call came in at 8:51 a.m. from the Gastrointestinal & Liver Specialists of Tidewater office located in the 5800 block of Harbour View Boulevard, according to the press release. Staff opening mail had discovered a white, powdery substance in an envelope.
Suffolk Fire & Rescue, Suffolk Police, the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office, a state hazardous materials representative and a U.S. Postal Service inspector responded.
The office closed to the public for a few hours but reopened shortly before 11 a.m. Employees were not evacuated, the press release stated.
