A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in a crash Friday evening in the 6300 block of Holy Neck Road.

The single-vehicle accident was reported at 9:10 p.m., according to a city press release. Preliminary investigation showed that the motorcycle left the roadway and struck a ditch.

The adult male driver was airlifted by Nightingale air ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, the press release stated.

The roadway was closed in both directions and was expected to remain closed for at least another hour as the investigation continues.
