Fans and alumni will be able to take a stroll down memory lane once again this weekend during the fifth annual Old School Classic at Lakeland High School.

The OSC features alumni from Suffolk high schools of the past. The whole weekend will feature a tailgate, games played and a worship service. Donations for the OSC will be $5, and all proceeds will go to the Lakeland boys’ basketball team.

The tailgate will be at the Highland Recreational Center from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday. On Saturday, four games will be played at Lakeland, and on Sunday a gathering for church service will be at YMCA Camp Arrowhead at 10 a.m.

“We are definitely excited about the direction we are headed,” Lakeland coach Clint Wright said. “I have a great committee who helps me put the whole weekend together, and we are all just excited to put this together for the fifth year.”

For the second consecutive year, the Old School Classic will feature a female exhibition game. It is something the committee wanted to continue pushing this year. Wright is excited about the weekend and what’s to come, which includes old laughs, surprised faces and sore muscles.

“It is a lot of fun for everybody,” Wright said. “It’s a reunion. You see people you haven’t seen in a long time for a special cause. Family, friends and even my players will be there. They can do two things — laugh at you or be amazed you can still do something out there.”

There will be some surprise referees for the games this weekend, and there will be different kinds of vendors that will be working with the committee this weekend.

“We have had a good turnout the last few years,” Wright said. “A lot of people haven’t seen each other play in a while, and we are just looking forward to doing some things out on the court we probably haven’t done in a while.”

Overall, Wright is looking forward to some new things for his basketball team come the winter time. He is in his sixth year coaching Lakeland and hopes to get some new apparel for his team for the 2018-2019 season.
