The long-awaited Suffolk Police Department’s lip sync challenge video was released Friday to an enthusiastic reception by the community.

Officer Jennifer Park and Sgt. Herman Kee took the lead and were the main faces seen lip-syncing, though it is apparent there was no shortage of officers willing to participate.

The video, posted at noon on the Suffolk Police Department’s Facebook page, amassed 2,800 shares, 349 comments and 46,000 views within just four hours of posting.

Like most participants, the department chose more than one song to use as they danced through police headquarters and across the rest of the city. They used Montell Jordan’s “This Is How We Do It,” and Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family” to set the mood.

“The two songs, chosen by the officers of the department, say it all,” Maj. Gerald Brandsasse said in an email.

According to Brandsasse, being professional, respectful, fun and a close-knit group is how the department does it, and the police department is a family.

“We are merely an extension of a much larger family, the Suffolk community as a whole. Our officers are the same as the citizens within the community that we stand with, stand behind, protect and assist,” Brandsasse said in the email.
