Fall sports gearing up

With the 2018-2019 school year on the horizon, fall sports are starting to get under way.
After making the most of their summer breaks, fall sports student-athletes are gearing up for a new season. Volleyball, golf, soccer, field hockey, tennis, football and cross-country schedules will start to pick up over the month of August.
Golf is up first with Lakeland High School, King’s Fork High School and Nansemond River High School all getting started this week. While they are playing matches that count, other fall sports will partake in a couple of scrimmages this first half of August before the games become official in the latter half of the month.
Last year, Suffolk came away with two regular season champions from the fall sports season. The Bulldogs football team won the Southeastern District, and Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s volleyball team won the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools during the regular season. The Warriors football team added a regional title to the mix and reached the state tournament.
There will be new coaches, new players and challenges this season, and the hard work being put in now will hopefully lead to a strong fall for the Suffolk sports scene.
