The city has rescheduled the water main repairs on North Main Street to Aug. 17 due to an increasing percentage for potential storms over the weekend.
According to a city release, this allows the work to be completed over the period of a weekend.
Suffolk’s Public Utilities Department will be replacing a service line from the city’s water main. The water main is located in the middle of the northbound lanes in the 200 block of North Main Street.
The work and traffic detour will begin at 7 p.m. Aug. 17 and will remain in effect until the replacement is completed. The sidewalk near the work site will also be closed while repairs are being made.
The northbound traffic would take drivers from Bank Street to Pinner Street to Finney Avenue before coming back to North Main Street.
The southbound area of North Main Street will not be affected.
Along with street closures, water service will be interrupted for the duration of the repairs. The area on Main Street from Market Street to the railroad tracks will have their water service interrupted from 9 p.m. Aug. 17 to 12 p.m. Aug. 18.
Impacted residents will be notified of the change with updated door hangers.
