Suffolk man drowns

A body recovered in the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth was identified as Suffolk resident Delma Batson.
Portsmouth Police Department received a call at 9:37 p.m. Thursday being alerted that a male had fallen from a sailboat into the water. Norfolk Police responded but could not locate the body, but they used they used sonar to locate Batson, 73, according to Portsmouth Police spokeswoman Misty Holley.
Batson was removed from the water at 1:15 a.m. Friday and pronounced dead by Portsmouth Fire and Rescue.
The Virginia Marine Resource Commission received a call about the incident at 10:40 p.m. and they will be conducting the investigation to determine what happened, according to spokeswoman Ellen Bolen.
