Firefighters respond to Birdsong Peanuts factory

Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded to a call at Birdsong Peanuts early Monday morning, according to a city press release.
Dispatch received a call at 5:04 a.m. regarding a commercial structure fire in the 300 block of Factory Street, and found peanuts smoldering on the seventh floor of the building.
Fire and Rescue arrived at 5:10 a.m. and found no smoke was initially visible from the exterior of the building, before a physical inspection inside.
After the inspection, they found heavy smoke and fire on the seventh floor, and due to the height of the location, ladder trucks and hoses had to be utilized to put out the fire.
An overhead sprinkler assisted in extinguishing the flames.
There were seven employees at the scene but were evacuated from the premises. There were no injuries.
Responding units included Ladders 3 and 6, Engines 1, 2, 3 and 4, Battalion 1, Rescue 1, Medic
3A, EMS 1 and Safety 1. Suffolk Police provided traffic control due to the staging of emergency equipment and assistance at the scene, according to city press release.
The Fire Marshal’s office will continue to investigate.
