The Warriors boys’ volleyball team is looking to be competitive in the district this year.

The Nansemond River High School boys’ volleyball team will have a new face at the helm this season. Teresa Hodges brings a ton of experience over from California and hopes her knowledge of the game can help the Warriors succeed this season. It has been an adjustment with Hodges getting used to her players, but nonetheless, she feels good about this season.

“I think these guys have potential to do some good things,” Hodges said. “I think our athleticism is going to play a huge part in our success this year. We have been learning a lot about each other, and things have been going a lot smoother.”

Hodges has always set her expectations high everywhere she has been. Her expectations will remain high with the Warriors. One of the things she wants the Warriors to accomplish is having a better season than last year. Also, on and off the court, Hodges wants to help her student-athletes become better people.

“We want to be in that top part of the district this season,” Hodges said. “We want to continue to progress and just be better than what we were last season. You want to help them with volleyball and also use it to teach life lessons.”

The Warriors return Benjamin Wiechert and Morgan Magrisi, two players who are expected to make an impact this season for the Warriors. They tip the season off against Deep Creek High School at home at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
