James Holdsworth Hancock

James Holdsworth “Jim” Hancock passed away at his home. He found out Jan. 16, 2018, that he had esophageal cancer. He was born Jan. 19, 1945, in Suffolk. He was the son of the late James Holdsworth “Jimmie” Hancock Sr. and A. Juanita Blanchard Hancock and was predeceased by two infant brothers.

Jim graduated from Suffolk High School, class of 1964, and served four years in the Air Force. He retired from C&P Telephone Company and Cox Communications.

Jim is survived by his wife, Becky Jackson Hancock; sons, James “Jimmie” Hancock, of Suffolk, and Ryan C. Milteer (Melissa); two grandsons, Jackson Milteer and Seth Bishop, of Gates, N.C.; father- and mother-in-law, Mac and Audrey Jackson, of Gates, N.C.; brothers-in-law, Gary Jackson (Tricia), of Greenville, N.C., and Richie Jackson, of Windsor; several nephews and nieces; and numerous cousins.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, with the Rev. Michael D. Halley officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday.
