Alice Faye “Birdie” Harris entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, in the comfort of her daughter’s home.

She was born April 28, 1959, and was the daughter of Catherine Harris and the late William “Sonny” Mitchell. She was a member of Antioch United Church of Christ and was fun-loving all the time.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Donald Harris; three daughters, Shawndell Harris, LaVonda Harris and Tamia Holland; her sisters, Bonita Mitchell, Sandra Mitchell and Gwen Mitchell. She is also survived by her brothers, Lorenzo Mitchell, Donnell Harris, Kenneth Harris (Audrey) and Randy Harris; seven grandchildren whom she loved and adored, Malik Harmon, Oria Arline, Talia Copeland, Orion Towns, Anazia Valentine, Oriell Harris and Orihanna Harris; and one great-grandson Caleb Harmon. She will be lovingly missed by her aunts, Margaret A. Vann and Connie Harris, and uncle, Abraham Mitchell, as well as her goddaughter, Samone Alston, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Alice Faye was predeceased by her grandfather, Alexander Sr., and Sarah Harris and Willie and Otil Mitchell, and a sister, Gwendolyn.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at the East End Baptist Church, 1056 Portsmouth Blvd., Suffolk. Burial will be in the Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will have visitation at her daughter’s residence at 4035 Stowaway Lane, Portsmouth, VA 23703. Harris Funeral Home has been entrusted with the home going service.
