Rhonda Duman Jones, 59, passed away Aug. 22 after a short but valiant battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Rhonda was intelligent, independent, sincere and compassionate. An individual that should be emulated by all for her love of family, dedication to her profession and willingness to give far more than she ever expected to receive.

Rhonda graduated from Old Dominion University and earned a master’s degree from James Madison University. She was employed as a speech pathologist and later as an administrator with the Suffolk Public Schools system. Rhonda served as vice principal of Mack Benn Jr. Elementary School and as principal of Robertson Elementary School until its closing. She enjoyed the challenges and rewards of her profession and took pride in her students, their families and her staff. She was a leader that valued her coworkers and led by example. She was always willing to accept responsibility for the task at hand. During her 33 years in the school system, she touched the lives of many in countless ways.
