Portion of East Washington closed due to accident

A portion of East Washington Street is closed to due to a single vehicle accident on Tuesday afternoon.
According to a city press release, a vehicle reportedly struck and damaged a utility pole.
Dispatch was notified of the accident at 1:45 p.m., and Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded to the accident that took place in the 1600 block of East Washington Street.
The two occupants of the vehicle were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both occupants received emergency medical assessments and treatments.
Currently, the westbound lane is closed while the westbound traffic is utilizing the center turn lane. Eastbound traffic is traveling as normal.
The detour will be in place for approximately four to five hours while they repair the utility pole, according to the release.
The accident is currently under investigation.
